Hosting outdoor events in Brisbane is a no-brainer—we have stunning weather and great private homes and events venues with outdoor spaces! We’ve pulled together five tips to help you plan a flawless outdoor event, so the only question is: what are you celebrating?

1. Opt for finger food

Welcoming your guests into an outdoor event often invites them to spread out and find a spot to get comfortable and enjoy themselves, so there’s nothing worse than burdening them with piles of crockery and cutlery.

Instead, choose finger food and grazing stations so guests can remain mobile, select what they’d like to enjoy, and find their own spot to settle in (instead of being bound to a dining table)!

2. Incorporate live food stations

Outdoor events typically see you working with plenty of space, so why not treat guests to a live food station manned by one of our chefs!

Options include flaming wok stations serving up noodles and curry, fresh seafood, a coal-burning yakitori station and a Spanish bar with paella and tapas. We also love to devise live cooking stations to suit your event’s theme—get in touch to discuss what we could do!

3. Consider a breakfast/brunch event to avoid the midday sun

As much as outdoor events in Brisbane are a fabulous way to make use of our unparalleled climate, sometimes the midday sun is just too hot!

If you’re considering a lunch event, why not pivot to celebrate with a breakfast or brunch? A fun and increasingly popular way to host guests, a breaky or brunch could include pastry and fruit stations, fresh scrambled eggs and bacon and, of course, plenty of tea and coffee!

4. Bring the inside outside

A classic wet-weather insurance policy, setting up a marquee over your outdoor events space can also provide opportunities for beautiful styling (as well as a fallback if the weather doesn’t behave)!

Whether you opt for a classic white marquee, something more contemporary like a transparent marquee, or something on-theme like a tipi, a marquee can set the scene for your event and allow you to incorporate typically indoor elements like lighting, screens, and softer furnishings. We love the marquees that our frequent collaborators Event Rentals and Events in Tents can provide!

5. Set up a drinks station

Something about being in the open air is guaranteed to make your guests thirsty! Set up an attractive drinks station or bar that suits your event, and be sure to deck it out with some florals or on-theme decoration!

Ideas could include a batched cocktail, iced teas, and juice with plenty of fresh fruit and mint, or a manned cocktail station—super chic!
